Indian cricketer KL Rahul’s participation in the upcoming test match against England looks to be in jeopardy. The opening batter suffered a groin injury during the practice on the eve of the T20I series against South Africa.
KL Rahul was named as the skipper for the T20I series, as the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah were being rested. However, his injury ruled him out completely of the T20I series. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant replaced him as the captain of the Indian team, while Hardik was named his deputy.

“Team India Captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa owing to a right groin injury,” the BCCI wrote in their statement.
After the injury, KL Rahul joined the National Cricket Academy to complete his rehabilitation. However, it is unclear how long the Indian cricketer will take to recover from the injury and get back on the field. According to a report on Cricbuzz, KL Rahul’s participation is doubtful for the fifth (rescheduled) test match against England.
“It is learnt that diagnosis of his (KL Rahul’s) complaint is not complete yet. Sources have indicated that his participation in the England series is doubtful but could not clarify if he will have to skip the white ball games as well,” read the report on Cricbuzz.
First batch of Team India players to leave on June 16
The Cricbuzz report further added that the Indian team management may ask for Mayank Agarwal as KL Rahul’s replacement. However, it is not guaranteed as the selectors have already named a 17-member squad. In KL Rahul’s, Shubman Gill might get a chance to open the innings along with Rohit Sharma.
Meanwhile, the first batch of the Indian players will depart for England on June 16. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, coach Rahul Dravid, and others will leave later. The fifth test will take place from July 1 to July 5 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
