Vinod Kambli, once one of India’s most promising cricketers, is now facing severe financial and health challenges. From dominating cricket pitches to struggling to pay medical bills, his journey is a cautionary tale of how fortunes can change drastically. Vinod Kambli, a childhood friend of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, was celebrated for his extraordinary batting talent. With a brief yet impactful international cricket career, he left a mark with his aggressive playing style and fearless attitude.
The Rise and Fall of a Cricketing Star
Kambli’s career began with a bang, with several memorable innings that made him a household name. However, inconsistency and off-field issues cut his promising career short, leaving him struggling to find stable ground post-retirement.
Current Financial Struggles of Vinod Kambli
According to reports, Kambli lost his iPhone after failing to pay a repair fee of Rs 15,000. This incident highlights the financial hardships he’s currently facing. While Kambli receives a monthly pension of Rs 30,000 from the BCCI, it is barely enough to cover his mounting expenses, especially with ongoing health concerns.
Health Challenges Faced by Kambli
Kambli was recently hospitalized after doctors discovered blood clots in his brain, a serious condition requiring immediate attention and care. In addition to brain-related issues, Kambli also suffered from a severe urinary tract infection, complicating his health further. Despite financial barriers, Kambli was fortunate to receive medical aid and financial support from individuals and former teammates who stepped in to help.
Andrea Hewitt, Kambli’s wife, has been vocal about their financial struggles. She revealed that their housing society is demanding Rs 18 lakh in unpaid maintenance fees, threatening their home. The mounting maintenance debt has put immense pressure on the family, and losing their home seems like a real possibility.
Support from Former Cricketers and Political Aid
Kambli received Rs 5 lakh in aid from a political party and moral support from several former cricketers, showcasing the cricket community’s willingness to help one of their own. In a heartfelt message, Kambli urged the public to stay away from alcohol and drugs, sharing how such vices can ruin lives.
Kambli was now completely fit though he will have to take certain precautions, said Dr Vivek Trivedi who treated him.
