A possible conflict with the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) management has been hinted to by Rishabh Pant ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Pant reportedly wanted a high retention fee, which caused DC to reevaluate their choice to keep him as captain. Pant has since confirmed the situation, though, ending the rumors.

Axar Patel, an all-rounder, was the Delhi Capitals’ first pick at Rs 16.50 crore, and the team retained four players until the auction. Tristan Stubbs retained in Mumbai Indians side at Rs 10 crore and Abishek Porel uncapped, wicketkeeper, batter, at Rs 4 crore; Kuldeep Yadav retained for Rs 13.25 crore. In fact, DC is well placed to make peculiar purchases at the auction, with around Rs 73 crore.

At the auction level, the DC can also select the use of the Right to Match (RTM) card, relating to two players. By doing so, they will be able to retain some of their better talents or make some wise decisions to their roster through flexibility.

Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, Rishabh Pant made mention of a possible falling out with the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) management. Pant was rumored to have demanded such a high retention fee that DC opted to go with having him as captain. The wicketkeeper batsman, however, has clarified the situation.

Pant asserted on X (previously Twitter) that he wasn’t kept because of money. implying that DC and its skipper may have additional problems prior to the 2025 IPL season.

“My retention wasn’t about the money for sure, that I can say.”Rishabh Pant said on X.

For the uninitiated, DC underwent significant adjustments before to the 18th IPL season. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL), JSW will take over the women’s squad, while GMR Group, the franchise’s two co-owners, has agreed to manage the men’s team through the 2026 season.
