India’s Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj will take center stage in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test, starting at the Gabba on Saturday, December 14. After a win in the opening Test in Perth and a tough loss in Adelaide, the series is tied 1-1.
The visitors aim to bounce back at the Gabba, where they achieved a historic three-wicket victory in 2021—India‘s only win in seven Tests at the venue. Ahead of this crucial match, Pant and Siraj are poised to make history and climb elite charts.
Pant has scored 112 Test runs at the Gabba, trailing Motganhalli Laxminarsu Jaisimha, who tops the Indian charts with 175 runs at the venue. Pant needs just 63 runs to surpass Jaisimha and lead this elite list, which includes notable names like Murali Vijay (171), Ajinkya Rahane (152), Sourav Ganguly (144), Cheteshwar Pujara (142), MAK Pataudi (122), and Sunil Gavaskar (116).
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj has an opportunity to become India’s top wicket-taker in Tests at the Gabba. With six wickets so far, he needs three more to claim the top spot. Currently, Siraj is tied with Ishant Sharma, Madan Lal, and Bishan Singh Bedi (all with six wickets), while Shardul Thakur (seven) and Erapalli Prasanna (eight) are just ahead of him.
Will Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj repeat their Gabba brilliance?
India’s sole Test victory at the Gabba came in 2021, where they delivered a historic performance to breach Australia’s fortress. Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj played pivotal roles in securing that memorable win.
Siraj’s five-wicket haul in Australia’s second innings included key dismissals of Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Matthew Wade. Chasing a challenging target of 328, Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89 off 138 balls guided India to victory with three wickets in hand.
As they head into the third BGT 2024-25 Test at the same venue under pressure, India will be eager to replicate their 2021 heroics. Both Pant and Siraj will look to deliver match-winning performances once again.
