Rishabh Pant Reveals The Major Shift Under Gautam Gambhir’s Coaching Leadership

The Gautam Gambhir era in Indian cricket began with the tour of Sri Lanka, where India won the T20I series but lost the ODI series. After this, the Indian team will have a long break before they face Bangladesh in a Test series starting on September 19, marking a significant challenge for Gambhir. Rishabh Pant is expected to play a key role in India’s plans for the future.

Both Gambhir and Pant have played for Delhi in domestic cricket, and Pant, in an interview, discussed the shift in Indian cricket under Gambhir’s leadership. He emphasized the importance of not underestimating Bangladesh in the upcoming two-Test series and highlighted the need for India to continue evolving in order to maintain their competitive edge.

The anchor ask Rishabh Pant: “What is the biggest change that can happen under Gautam Gambhir and how it can take Indian cricket forward?”

To which Rishabh Pant replies: “I feel Rahul bhai was very balanced as a human being and as a coach. It could be both good and bad, because in cricket there can be positives. This is upon the individuals whether to focus on the positives and negatives, and it depends on where individuals want to focus. Gauti bhai (Gambhir) is more aggressive, he’s very one-sided about the fact that you have to win. But you need to find the right balance and improve. This is the best part of international cricket.”

Bangladesh, fresh off a 2-0 win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi, will meet Rohit Sharma’s squad in the first Test at Chennai on September 19, followed by a match in Kanpur. Over the next five months, India will play a total of 10 Tests. After the series with Bangladesh, India will host New Zealand for three Tests in October and November, followed by the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, consisting of five Tests.

Pant stressed that no series should be taken lightly as the gap between teams is shrinking in international cricket. He also mentioned that playing in the Duleep Trophy ahead of a busy Test season will provide valuable match practice for the players, while younger domestic players will benefit from the exposure to experienced international stars.
