Rohit Sharma joined MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar in an unwanted list after India’s 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide on Sunday, December 8. This loss marked Rohit’s fourth consecutive defeat as Test captain.
India’s first Test win in the series came under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership in Perth, where they triumphed by 295 runs. With the Adelaide defeat, Rohit became the sixth Indian captain to lose four or more consecutive Tests.
Prior to this, India had been whitewashed 3-0 at home by New Zealand, led by Tom Latham, marking India’s first home series whitewash in three or more matches. Kohli, India’s most successful Test captain, also suffered four consecutive losses during the 2020-21 season.
Dhoni, who had a mixed tenure as Test captain, lost four consecutive Tests twice—once in 2011 and again in 2014.

In addition to his challenges as captain of the Indian Test team, the 37-year-old is enduring a poor run of form in red-ball cricket. During the Adelaide Test, he was dismissed for three in the first innings, trapped lbw by Scott Boland.
In the second innings, he managed only six before being bowled by a brilliant delivery from Pat Cummins that angled in and clipped the top of off stump.
