According to reports, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is planning to remain available to play in those fifty-over matches before the announcement of the squads of the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Before the squad announcement for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka, which is to be followed by the release of the team list on Wednesday, July 17, in Cricbuzz, it was reported that Rohit, aged 37, who recently became only the third Indian captain to win an ICC trophy last month, “may consider himself for the three-match ODI Series in August.

Rohit might cut short his holiday and participate in the three one-day internationals (ODIs) to be held against Sri Lanka in Colombo, on August 2, 4, and 7. He is supposed to inform the BCCI of his availability before the online selection meeting held this Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma Sets To Captain India For SL Series: Reports

The skipper of Team India in limited overs cricket, Rohit Sharma, is still in a dilemma about whether to play or not in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the next month. Since there are only three more ODI games before the Champions Trophy in early 2019, Rohit Sharma may opt for the three matches.

Thus, two countries’ big guns in their respective departments, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, might not be seen in the three 50-over matches, although Rohit could easily be seen featuring in ODIs against Sri Lanka.

The regular all-rounder of the Indian team, the star performer Hardik Pandya, will be away from the Sri Lanka series ODI format citing some personal issues, while the young KKR captain and middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who was recently axed from the central contract list of BCCI earlier this year, will be back in the ODI squad Indian team along with K L Rahul, as per the Cricbuzz report.

The same situation was seen in the just-concluded ODI series against South Africa in December 2023, in which Rahul will lead the team if Rohit opts out of the format.
