Rohit Sharma Set To Open In 2024-25 BGT 4th Test vs Australia – Reports

India is ready for a major change in its batting lineup before the start of the Boxing Day Test match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Some media sources have suggested that Rohit Sharma, now widely regarded as a successful Indian opening batsman, may be promoted back to the opening slot.

The 4th BGT Test Match will commence on December 26 and the series is 1-1 at the moment. The teams are conscious of the fact that the series is very important, bearing in mind the series and WTC 2023-25 points up for grabs.

A new test is to be expected to be an interesting fight where the result of the series may depend. Finally, three more dramatic confrontations ensued and thus, the forthcoming match might prove pivotal for both teams’ tournament runs.

India’s batting order may be the big focus of the match, especially considering the changes that see Rohit Sharma back as an opener. With the series nicely poised and at a 1-1 standoff, both teams will be itching for the upper hand and, more so, the victory.

KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma as an opener?

A major switch-up is expected in the Indian lineup for the Boxing Day Test, with Rohit Sharma expected to revert back to his preferred position of an opener. This decision arises from a few woes of Sharma in the middle order, where he has scores of only 152 at an average of 11.69 in 7 matches this summer.

But as an opener, Sharma has done a pretty good job, amassing 2,685 runs in 64 innings, including nine test centuries and eight test fifties. Considering he was able to come into the side and perform as a frontline power-play bowler, this new ball could give India the perfect start they have been lacking.

KL Rahul will replace Gill at the number three slot with 235 runs under his belt at an average of 47.00. This strategic change is to avoid Australia’s strong bowling lineup and to build a strong position from India’s innings.
