In the third and final One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series, India’s cricket team was humiliated by 110 runs against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, August 7, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. From their top batting players like Time Dermers have written to you about their handicap, it’s terrible they scored just 138 runs against Sri Lanka’s 248 total.
The highest scorer for India, Rohit Sharma, had an impressive but short innings (with only 35 off 20 balls). However, it was not enough for them to win this match.
India has now lost three consecutive games to Sri Lanka, who were predicted to thrash them. For this reason, did this loss necessitate any kind of developmental advance for the Indian team which exposed their deficiency?
Rohit Sharma Joins Sachin Tendulkar On The Unwanted List:
On the final ODI of the series played on August 7 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka beat the world’s best ODI team in the ICC Rankings with a 110-run defeat.
There are only three Indian captains till now who have lost an ODI bilateral series to Sri Lanka and joining the above-mentioned legends, are Rohit Sharma. It was even worse for the previous Indian captain Azharuddin in 1993, when he led the side to a 1–2 loss. The Men in Blue led by the great Tendulkar had a disastrous 1997 and they got defeated 0-3 in the series by the Sri Lankan team.
Now, Rohit Sharma automatically got himself into the list of the few unpleasant records. India would have been hoping to extend this statistics which boasts of the fact that India never lost a bilateral ODI series to Sri Lanka for 27 years but this current 2-0 ODI series defeat put an end to this.
Significantly, the first match against India culminated in a tie on August 2. The Islanders retaliated well to style a 32-run win in the second ODI before a masterly performance to thrash Team India by as many as 110 runs in the third and final ODI at Colombo on Wednesday.
