India lost the World Test Championship final under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Fans started raising questions against his captaincy once again. Many former cricketers and cricket experts believe that India should opt for split captaincy across different formats to get the burden off Kohli’s shoulders and let another player take over his spot.

The player whose name often comes when discussion surrounds captaincy is Rohit Sharma. Many experts believe that Rohit Sharma should be the ideal choice for leading the Indian T20 team.

Former England spinner Monty Panesar backed Rohit Sharma and said he should be the skipper of India in the shortest format of the game considering his marvelous run as captain in IPL with Mumbai Indian.

Panesar believes that India should replace Virat with Rohit for captaincy responsibilities before the T20 world cup this year. Meanwhile, The Mumbai Indians skipper is mainly known for leading his team towards victory five times in the IPL and remarkable runs in Asia Cup and Nidahas Trophy.

“Well I think T20 captaincy probably should be given to Rohit Sharma, he does really well for Mumbai Indians,” Monty Panesar told CricBouncer.

“You know Virat Kohli is under pressure here because if his team doesn’t perform in the five-match series against England and loses ICC T20 World Cup 2021 then you know what will happen,” he added.

India will lock horns with England for the five-match Test series in August later this year. Indian faces a terrible defeat against England when last they battled them on their home ground in 2018. India will be hoping to take revenge and register their first Test series victory against Joe Root and company on England soil. The last Test time India won on England was in 2007.

Virat Kohli hints at some changes in the Test team

After the loss in the WTC final, captain Virat Kohli has hinted that there might be some changes in the Test team. He said that the team would like to bring people with the right mindset who can neutralize pressure situations and perform very well.

“We will not wait for a year or so and have to plan ahead. If you see our white-ball team now, we have great depth and guys are ready and confident. The same thing needs to be done with Test cricket. You have to reassess and replan and understand what dynamics work for the team and how we can be fearless. Bring in the right people who have right mindset to perform,” Kohli said at the post-match presser after the WTC final.
