Rohit Sharma Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar In Captaincy Record After Victory Over West Indies

Following India’s comprehensive victory over West Indies in the first Test, Rohit Sharma has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar‘s captaincy record.

With this win, Rohit achieved his fifth victory in eight matches as captain, surpassing Tendulkar’s four wins in 25 matches. He also surpassed Ajinkya Rahane and Ajit Wadekar, who both led India to victory on four occasions.

India’s undefeated streak in Test series against West Indies since 2002 remains intact, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s century that propelled India to a substantial total of 421 in response to West Indies’ 150.

Rohit Sharma surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become one of India’s most successful Test captains

Currently, Virat Kohli tops the list with 40 wins from 68 matches, while MS Dhoni (27 wins) and Sourav Ganguly (21 wins) occupy the second and third spots, respectively.

Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in India’s triumph, with his remarkable performance against a struggling West Indies batting lineup.

Ashwin’s second five-wicket haul of the match, with figures of seven for 71 in 21.3 overs, proved instrumental in India’s commanding victory by 141 runs.

The outcome of the match was evident as West Indies were bundled out for a paltry 150 runs on the opening day.

Despite the expectation of an improved batting display in their second innings, the West Indies team faltered, collapsing to just 130 all out in 50 overs, resulting in a three-day finish for the Test.

India’s emphatic win was also fueled by the outstanding debut of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a sublime 171 runs.

While Virat Kohli contributed 76 runs off 182 deliveries, his innings was not as fluent as usual, as he had to work hard for his runs and even survived two dropped catches.

In terms of overall Test captaincy records for India, Virat Kohli leads with 40 wins from 68 matches. MS Dhoni follows closely with 27 wins from 60 matches, and Sourav Ganguly holds the third position with 21 wins from 49 matches.

Overall, India’s victory was well-deserved, with significant contributions from Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Ravichandran Ashwin’s exceptional bowling, and the remarkable debut of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
