Rohit Sharma Takes A Hilarious Dig At Australia As They Knocked Out Of 2024 T20 World Cup

At Rohit Sharma‘s pre-match press conference before the India vs England 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal in Guyana, there was a mandatory lighthearted moment. The Indian captain seized the opportunity to humorously poke at Australia for being eliminated from the ongoing ICC event, despite being the Test and ODI world champions.

India is set to face England in the second semifinal at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. In their last Super 8 match, India defeated Australia by 24 runs in St Lucia, significantly contributing to Australia’s failure to reach the semifinals. Australia also previously lost to Afghanistan by 21 runs in St Vincent.

When asked about the key takeaway from the Super 8 victory over Australia at the press conference, Rohit paused, smiled, and cheekily replied:

“That there’s no more Australian cricket team in this competition.”

Rohit’s clever remark, as usual, sparked immediate laughter among the media attendees. Indian fans vividly remember the sight of their captain in tears after India’s loss to Australia by six wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, a tournament in which they had remained undefeated until the final.

Interestingly, Rohit was named the Player of the Match while India defeated Australia in their final Super Eight match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on June 24.

In their chase, Australia managed 181-7 despite Travis Head’s 76 off 43 balls. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh excelled with 3-37, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav impressed with 2-24 from his four overs.
