New Zealand‘s long-serving batsman Ross Taylor who has arguably been one of the best batsmen to have originated from the island nation has laid all his eyes on the 2023 World Cup. Previously, Taylor had said that he will take a call on his career after there is more clarity on the cricket the Blackcaps will be playing in the COVID era.
All things considered, the veteran batsman actually feels that with the 50-over World Cup being delayed till the end of 2023, it might just be too late for the batsman to feature in as he will inch close to 39 by the time the ICC World Cup 2023takes place. The prolific batsman from New Zealand has featured in as many as four World Cups and will be surely eyeing the fifth.
‘World Cup is definitely on the radar’ – Ross Taylor
Taylor who recently spoke to Reuters.com said that with his career inching towards retirement, he has short term and long term goals in place out of which the World Cup is definitely on the radar for him.
“You’ve got to have short-term goals and long-term goals and the one-day World Cup is definitely on the radar,” Taylor said. “It doesn’t mean I will make it, but it’s definitely one of my goals.” Ross Taylor was quoted as saying by Reuters.
He further added how making it to the World Cup is going to be a stretch since it has been postponed by close to seven months. Which means he will have to hang around for that amount of time period which seems fairly doubtful for him as he will be in his late 30s by then.
“It was going to be a stretch … at the best of times, when it was February and March,” he said. And now the World Cup has been dragged out to October and November ‘23, it’s another six or seven months to hang around.” Ross Taylor admitted.
