Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has promised to fight back hard in the second test against South Africa, which is set to take place from Wednesday, January 3 at the Newlands in Cape Town. India suffered an embarrassing defeat in the first Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
India was bowled out for just 131 runs in the second innings, handing South Africa an innings win. Rohit Sharma expressed that India was not good enough to win the first test. He highlighted India’s batting struggles in the match. Except for KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, the rest of the Indian batters failed to make much of an impact. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Indian skipper,
“Honestly, look, we’re not good enough to win this match.”
“I thought we got decent runs on the board on that track in the first innings, K L Rahul did brilliantly to get us that century. But then we failed to exploit the conditions with the ball. Then again, we didn’t show up with the bat today as well. Our batting was poor in the second innings. If you want to win Test matches, you’ve got to come together collectively. But we failed to do that.”
Rohit Sharma further spoke about KL Rahul, who slammed a century in the first innings. The keeper-batter slammed 101 runs off 137 deliveries, with fourteen boundaries and four sixes. Rohit Sharma said,
“When you lose a game in three days, there’s not a lot of positives but like I mentioned, the way KL Rahul batted in the first innings showed a lot of us what you need to do on that kind of pitch. A lot of our bowlers haven’t been here before, they’re still learning. So I don’t want to be too critical of them.”
Important to regroup quickly: Rohit Sharma
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma further expressed that the team needs to regroup quickly before the second Test in Cape Town. He promised that they would fight back in the upcoming game. He also added that a sportsman needs to be up for the next challenge, despite setbacks. Rohit Sharma said,
“We will regroup, and we’ll fight back.”
“It’s important for us to regroup as quickly as we can. It’s tough to take a loss like this. But as a sportsman, we all go through these kinds of times, and you need to pick yourselves up and get ready for the next challenge, which is in front of you,” he added.
