Leus du Plooy and David Wiese from Joburg Super Kings (JSK) showcased an impressive relay catch in the SA20 2024 game against Durban Super Giants (DSG). The match took place at Kingsmead in Durban on Monday, January 15.
During the seventh SA20 league match, DSG captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and chose to bat. The home team faced a setback, finding themselves at 34/4 in 6.1 overs. Heinrich Klaasen and Keemo Paul (17 runs in 21 balls) then stabilized the innings with a 39-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
After a calm start, Keemo Paul attempted to increase the scoring rate in the 12th over by playing a powerful shot over mid-wicket against Romario Shepherd’s length delivery. Despite achieving good elevation, he couldn’t cover the required distance.
Leus du Plooy went after the ball energetically, but realizing he might step over the boundary, he threw the ball up. Quick to react, David Wiese positioned himself well to catch the ball safely, completing an impressive relay catch.

“The clash with South Africa’s tour of New Zealand isn’t ideal”- Graeme Smith responding to criticism about the SA20 schedule
Graeme Smith, the head of the SA20 league, admitted that the overlap between the league’s schedule and South Africa’s away Test series against New Zealand wasn’t ideal. Smith expressed his affection for Test cricket and assured efforts to prevent such conflicts in the future.
In a statement to Betway, the ex-South Africa captain addressed the issue:
“The clash with South Africa’s tour of New Zealand isn’t ideal, but scheduling is a challenge for everyone in the game and I expect that every year we’ll get better at it. Test cricket is a format that we all love. I played 116 Tests myself, so I want to see it protected.
Smith added: “We wanted to avoid an exhibition-style tournament and have really focused on making sure the cricketers are the best on show. There’s a quality group of young South African players and some outstanding international stars so, from a cricket perspective, it’s going to be very competitive. SA20 can raise standards across the game.”
