Sam Konstas Eyes Ashes Call-Up After Impressive India A Series

Australian young opener Sam Konstas has been making headlines for his fearless batting approach and growing maturity at the crease. During the recent unofficial Test series against India A, Konstas attempted a reverse ramp shot early in his innings — a bold move that reminded fans of a similar iconic shot played during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last year.

While he acknowledges that playing such a risky shot so early may not have been the wisest decision, Konstas believes that moments like these are an essential part of his learning curve. They showcase his attacking instinct and reflect his willingness to experiment and evolve as a batter, even against top-quality opposition.

Strong Performances Against India A Build Confidence

Konstas impressed selectors and fans alike with his performance in the two-match unofficial Test series against a strong India A side. He scored 109, 27*, 49, and 3 in four innings, displaying both consistency and resilience against a formidable bowling attack. These performances have significantly boosted his confidence and strengthened his belief that he can succeed at the highest level.

He also revealed that the experience helped him gain greater clarity about his batting technique and mindset. Coming off a challenging series in the West Indies, where he struggled to convert starts, Konstas said the India A series marked a turning point, helping him feel more technically assured and mentally prepared for future challenges.

Preparation, Mentorship, and the Ashes Dream

Konstas credits much of his recent progress to the support and guidance of his coaching team. Working closely with his batting coach has helped refine his technique, while sessions with a breathing coach have improved his temperament and focus under pressure — two crucial attributes for a top-order Test batter. With the Ashes series set to begin on November 21 in Perth, the 20-year-old is now focused on translating his strong domestic and A-team form into a potential Test debut.

He remains hopeful of breaking into the Australian squad and contributing on one of cricket’s biggest stages. Konstas’ journey so far reflects a mix of natural talent, fearless stroke play, and an eagerness to learn — qualities that could make him a valuable addition to Australia’s future Test plans.
