Concerning T20I cricket, on August 20, Darius Visser from Samoa made history by surpassing Yuvraj Singh’s record of scoring the most runs during a single over. This was achieved when Visser hit 39 runs in an over during the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

The previous joint record of 36 runs in one over had been held by Yuvraj, Kieron Pollard, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nicholas Pooran but Visser’s achievement is better than them all. His feat made him the first person to score 39 runs in one over in Twenty20 international matches that will remain part of history forever.

This amazing accomplishment highlights Visser’s exceptional batting skills that give him power over bowlers even at high-stakes events. His record-breaking innings will also be among the greatest moments in T20I cricket history.

Darius Visser became the first Samoan cricket player to reach a century:

In the process, Visser made cricket history by being the first Samoan player to achieve a century in the T20I format. On Tuesday, Samoa defeated Vanuatu by 10 runs in a regional qualification for the 2026 World Cup thanks to Visser’s 132 off 62 balls.

When Nalin Nipiko of Vanuatu came up to bowl the 15th over, Visser, who had hit 132 off 62 balls, was on 46. During that over, the Samoan hitter faced three balls without hitting the ropes six times. The fifth delivery of the over came from Nipiko, who then gave two no-balls, the second of which was hammered for a six by Visser, who is 28 years old.

Visser concluded with five fours and fourteen sixes. In a 2007 T20 World Cup encounter, Yuvraj Singh smashed England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over; in 2021, Pollard treated Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya similarly, with Airee becoming the third batsman to accomplish the feat in April. With 36 runs in one-day internationals, US batsman Jaskaran Malhotra and South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs hold the record.

Visser, who also removed Vanuatu batsman Ronald Tari from the game, helped Samoa reach 174, a total they managed to hold on to for their second win in the East Asia-Pacific qualification competition.
