Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson shared a significant fitness update ahead of their IPL 2025 clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS), set to take place on Sunday in Jaipur. The wicketkeeper-batter expressed his disappointment over missing key matches and watching his team crash out of playoff contention.
Currently placed ninth on the points table with just three wins from 12 games, the Royals were the second team to be knocked out of the playoff race this season. Samson, who featured in only seven matches, sustained a hip injury during the match against Delhi Capitals, which sidelined him for the rest of the tournament.
Addressing the media on Saturday, the right-handed batter admitted his frustration at being unable to contribute but added that he’s trying to remain positive and accept the situation as part of the game, according to India Today.
“I passed my fitness test, so I’m available for the game. Yeah, I think ‘frustrating’ is definitely the right word. It’s been very difficult and challenging to watch the games from the dugout.”
“I missed out on a lot of crucial matches, which made it even tougher. Mentally, it was hard to see the team losing and not be able to contribute on the field. But these things are part of a cricketing career. I’m trying to take it in my stride and focus on the positives.”
Sanju Samson’s Performance in IPL 2025
In his seven innings this season, Kerala-born Sanju Samson has scored 224 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.58, including one half-century. As captain, the 30-year-old has led Rajasthan Royals (RR) to 32 wins in 65 matches.
Despite being out of the playoff race, Samson and the Royals will aim to end the season positively. On the other hand, Punjab Kings remain in the hunt for a top-four finish and could secure a playoff spot with a win on Sunday.
