Mumbai Indians (MI) star Rohit Sharma was in a playful mood when he interacted with Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson ahead of their IPL 2025 match in Jaipur on May 1. Rohit had celebrated his 38th birthday the day before (April 30).

When Samson, unaware of the occasion, asked if it was Rohit’s birthday, the former MI captain jokingly denied it before revealing the truth. This led to Samson giving Rohit a warm hug and wishing him, along with RR teammate Dhruv Jurel.

Rohit also took time to meet RR head coach Rahul Dravid and interact with players like Jofra Archer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. You can watch the video here:

Sanju Samson was a member of the Indian squad that won the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit’s captaincy, while Jaiswal was part of the victorious 2025 Champions Trophy team. Dravid served as the Indian coach during their T20 World Cup triumph last year.

Meanwhile, Samson is recovering from a rib injury sustained during RR’s defeat to the Delhi Capitals. He has missed the team’s last three matches and is expected to be unavailable for the upcoming MI game.

Rohit Sharma aims to maintain his regained batting form in the upcoming RR clash

Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2025 campaign began with a series of low scores, drawing significant criticism from fans and experts. The 38-year-old managed just 82 runs in his first six innings, averaging under 14, with no scores above 30.

However, he bounced back with back-to-back 70+ scores against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Although he was dismissed for just 12 in MI’s latest match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Rohit looked dangerous early on, hitting two sixes at the start of his innings.

Rohit’s resurgence has been crucial in MI’s five-game winning streak, following a rough start with only one win in their first five matches. The five-time champions are currently third on the points table and are aiming for a sixth consecutive victory in their lone meeting with RR this season.
