Punjab Kings ran into a huge injury bomb as their all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Australian cricketer has a fractured finger and, consequently, will miss the tournament for the rest of the season. The news was confirmed by captain Shreyas Iyer at the toss of the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday, April 30.

Punjab Kings are suffering a major setback as their all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, questions arise as to what he could have done for the team this season. Though heavily auctioned for a whopping amount of Rs 4.2 crore, the 36-year-old failed to showcase his caliber.
With the bat, Maxwell could only muster 48 runs in six innings at a paltry average of 8 and a strike rate of 97.95, failing to make any significant. But for his bowling, the numbers were fairly reasonable, with the veteran taking four wickets in six innings at an average of 27.5 and a strike rate of 19.5.
The loss of Maxwell will surely be felt by the team, given his ability to break burning partnerships with the ball. The bowling department and fielding department looked solid with the presence of Maxwell and certainly quickened the pitches and provided sanity to the bathed atmosphere. Nevertheless, the Punjab Kings have not chosen to replace him and must instead reevaluate their approach and roster.
Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings in their previous match, cementing their second position on the points table after chasing down 191. The team will like to carry this momentum forward when they meet Lucknow Super Giants on May 4 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
