Suryakumar Yadav, the star batter for Mumbai Indians (MI), has added another remarkable achievement to his career, becoming the fastest Indian to reach 4000 runs in IPL history. He reached this milestone in just 2714 balls during MI’s IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants, continuing his impressive form in the current season.
By surpassing legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav now holds the third spot overall, trailing only AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, who both achieved the feat in 2658 balls. Following him are David Warner (2809 balls) and Suresh Raina (2881 balls).

The 34-year-old needed just 33 runs before the match to reach the landmark and brought it up with flair, hitting a boundary off Avesh Khan in the 13th over. In his 160th IPL match (145th innings), Suryakumar now boasts two centuries and 26 half-centuries, along with a strike rate of over 146 — the highest among Indian players with 4000 or more IPL runs.
Suryakumar Yadav Joins MI’s 3000-Run Club and Shines in Strike Rate
Worldwide, only de Villiers (151.68) and Gayle (148.96) have better strike rates in the 4000-run club. In another notable achievement, Suryakumar has now surpassed Kieron Pollard’s run tally for MI, joining Rohit Sharma and Pollard in the exclusive group of players who have scored more than 3000 runs for the franchise.
Additionally, he has completed 150 sixes in the IPL. The 2025 season has been a milestone year for Suryakumar, who last year became the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to score multiple centuries for MI in the IPL. He is also one of the few to surpass 600 runs in a single season for the franchise.
Suryakumar’s IPL journey began in 2012 with MI, where he played just one match. A stint with Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2017 helped his growth, but it was his return to Mumbai in the 2018 mega auction that truly launched him into the spotlight, cementing his place as one of the league’s most dangerous batters.
