Sanju Samson, a Team India cricketer, was spotted alongside MS Dhoni and England white-ball cricket team captain Jos Buttler during his stay in Mumbai. Notably, Samson is not part of the Indian World Cup squad, as the selectors chose Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan over him, despite his good performance in the ODI format for India in the past two years.
In 13 ODIs, Sanju Samson amassed 390 runs with a remarkable average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104, which included three half-centuries. Despite his reliable performances, he didn’t secure a spot in the complete lineup. The selectors excluded him from both the Asia Cup and World Cup squads. This decision by the selectors drew criticism from many disappointed fans on social media.
The selectors opted for a less experienced team for the Asian Games, which claimed the gold medal. However, Samson was not chosen for that squad, much to the dismay of his supporters. Currently, Samson is in Mumbai for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, where he captains the Kerala team. They are scheduled to play against Bihar at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday, October 19.
The selectors decided to assemble a less experienced team for the Asian Games, and this team managed to secure a gold medal earlier this month. Unfortunately, Sanju Samson was not part of that squad, causing disappointment among many. Sanju Samson is presently in Mumbai, leading the Kerala team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023. Their next match is against Bihar, scheduled for Thursday, October 19, at the DY Patil Stadium.
Yesterday, Sanju Samson posted a few pictures on his Instagram account, featuring himself alongside MS Dhoni and Jos Buttler, both of whom are currently in Mumbai. Samson provided a caption for the post.

“He hasn’t got a long rope from the selectors” – Saba Karim on Sanju Samson
Former Indian cricketer and former selector, Saba Karim, shared his sympathy for Sanju Samson and offered an analysis of why Samson wasn’t selected for the World Cup. Karim explained that KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the preferred wicketkeeper-batters, indicating that they hold a higher position in the selection hierarchy. He made these remarks during a conversation on JioCinema.
“It is a tough phase for Sanju Samson. Let us admit that first, because now it seems in the pecking order you have KL Rahul, then you have Ishan Kishan, and then comes Samson. It’s also the way he looks at his future in international cricket. Does he look at himself as a wicketkeeper-batter or does he think of himself as a batter? The kind of potential he has, everybody knows he is so gifted.”
He further added: “At times, there has been some kind of question mark over his consistency. Having said that, I do believe that he hasn’t got a long rope from the selectors due to different circumstances.”
