Sarfaraz Khan Compares Rohit Sharma To Aamir Khan’s Iconic Role In Lagaan

Ahead of India’s forthcoming Test season, Sarfaraz Khan praised Rohit Sharma for his influential role within the team, comparing him to Aamir Khan’s character in the film Lagaan. Sarfaraz described Rohit as a ‘big brother’ figure, noting that his presence fosters a positive and respectful environment among the players. Sarfaraz, who made his Test debut under Rohit’s leadership, emphasized that Rohit treats every player with equal respect, contributing to a constructive atmosphere in the dressing room.

Sarfaraz’s Test debut came earlier this year during India’s home series against England. Seizing his opportunity, Sarfaraz scored 200 runs in three matches, including three fifties, showcasing his aggressive batting style in the middle order. His performance was instrumental for India, benefiting from his natural approach to the game.

Sarfaraz remarked that Rohit’s approach makes players feel at ease, treating them as equals rather than juniors. “Rohit Sharma is like a big brother. We enjoy playing under him a lot. Having observed him from the outside before, I can now appreciate his leadership firsthand,” Sarfaraz said. He further likened Rohit’s role to Aamir Khan’s character in Lagaan, highlighting the captain’s ability to unify and inspire the team.

Since taking over from Virat Kohli in 2022, Rohit Sharma has captained India in 16 matches, bringing a steadying influence to the Test team. His leadership has helped maintain a light-hearted atmosphere both on and off the field.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who also made his Test debut against England this year, praised Rohit’s batting prowess. Jurel marveled at Rohit’s ability to handle challenging deliveries effortlessly, noting his impressive pull shot and referring to him as a “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time).

Both Sarfaraz and Jurel are part of India’s 15-man squad for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, with Rohit Sharma leading the team. Rohit conducted the team’s first training session in Chennai, where the opening Test will take place on September 13.
