“Send Me Your Best Wishes For The Duleep Trophy”- Virat Kohli’s Old Tweet Goes Viral

On Monday, August 12, an old tweet made by popular Indian cricketer Virat Kohli about his participation in the Duleep Trophy went viral on X (formerly Twitter). This happened while there were differing reports concerning the participation of the Delhi batter in the first-class tournament.

What is more, the original tweet was sent out in January 2010 when he had already joined the Indian ODI squad. He debuted against the West Indies in June 2011. Kohli tweeted on January 25, 2010:

“Wish me luck for the Duleep Trophy.”

It is reported that Kohli was last seen in the Duleep Trophy competition in 2010. The player represented North Zone at that time, where he scored a half-century against West Zone. His last game at home was the Ranji Trophy of 2012. Kohli has so far accumulated 2249 runs in 32 first-class matches (348 innings) including seven hundred and eight half-hundreds.

Virat Kohli will not be participating in the Duleep Trophy- Reports

As indicated by ESPNcricinfo, Virat Kohli would not attend the Duleep trophy. Alongside captain Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, the veteran batter has opted out of it before the forthcoming two-match Test series with Bangladesh.

However, several players who have center contracts will continue to play in the tournament, including KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant among others. This year’s Duleep Trophy is scheduled from September 5 to 22.

In international cricket apart from 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa where he made his only fifty so far this year, Kohli has been dismal with bat in hand. His latest performance was on par with his previous three appearances against Sri Lanka during one-day internationals; he netted 24 runs in the first match then returned with scores of84 and 91 respectively.

The right-handed downside batter managed 296 runs-in-the-14 matches (15 innings) in 2024 so far. In that regard, he will be eager to make amends for the next Test season. He must earn 58 runs so that he can become the fourth buttock alongside Sachin Tendulkar his contemporary Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting after making a total of 27,000 runs in all formats of cricket.

Fortunate for him against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli holds 437 runs from six Tests (nine innings) at an average rate of 54.62 including two centuries. He still has to score 152 more runs before reaching 9,000 test career runs.
