Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has faced a major setback as he has been suspended from bowling in all England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)-organized competitions. The suspension follows independent testing at Loughborough University earlier this month, which deemed his bowling action illegal.
In September, umpires raised concerns about his action during his single County Championship appearance for Surrey. However, Shakib has the chance to overturn the suspension by clearing an independent reassessment. To do so, his elbow extension must remain within the permissible 15-degree limit as per regulations.
Shakib Al Hasan’s suspension officially began on December 10, the day the ECB received his assessment results from Loughborough University. In his lone County Championship game for Surrey before his action was questioned, Shakib took nine wickets in Taunton in September.
This marked his first county appearance since his 2010-11 stint. Beyond his bowling action issues, Shakib’s career has been marred by off-field controversies. He retired from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup and previously quit Test cricket, with his last Test being against India in the second match of their series.
Where is Shakib Al Hasan currently playing?
After retiring from T20Is and Tests, Shakib Al Hasan has been active in various leagues worldwide. Currently, he is playing for the Galle Marvels in the Lanka T10 Super League in Sri Lanka.
In their opening match against the Kandy Bolts, Shakib bowled one over, conceding seven runs. He also contributed with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 20 off 8 balls to help the Marvels secure a seven-wicket victory.
