All-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of India’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Dube, who has been an essential part of India’s recent white-ball campaigns, sustained the injury during a practice session, leading to his withdrawal from both the national series and the Mumbai team for the ongoing Irani Cup.
Although the severity of the injury remains unclear, the team management has chosen to take a cautious approach to prevent aggravating his condition further. His absence will be a setback for the Indian team, as Dube’s all-round skills provided balance in both the batting and bowling departments.
Tilak Varma Named as Replacement
Tilak Varma, a young and promising left-handed batter, has been named as Dube’s replacement for the series. The 21-year-old Varma has already made a significant impact on the domestic cricket scene and in the Indian Premier League (IPL), particularly with the Mumbai Indians.
Known for his aggressive playing style and ability to handle high-pressure situations, Varma has featured in 16 T20 Internationals for India and is seen as a key talent for the future. He will join the Indian squad in Gwalior on Sunday morning, ahead of the first match. Varma is expected to bolster India’s middle order with his dynamic batting capabilities.
India’s Updated Squad for the Series
The first match of the three-game T20I series will take place in Gwalior, followed by matches in Delhi and Hyderabad. India’s updated squad, now including Tilak Varma, features a blend of experienced and emerging players.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, with other notable players like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Rinku Singh making up the core lineup. With the inclusion of Varma, India hopes to maintain flexibility and depth in the batting order as they face a competitive Bangladesh side. The series promises to be an exciting contest, with Varma eager to showcase his talent on the international stage.
