Shreyas Iyer, the captain of India D, produced a brilliant counterattacking knock during the current Duleep Trophy 2024 match in Anantapur versus India B. Day 2: Iyer turned the tide in his team’s favor with a 37-ball fifty.
But India D had a difficult start to the innings as Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, two of India B’s pacers, caused havoc. On Saturday, September 21, the pair cut India D to 18/3. Saini removed Devdutt Padikkal (3) and Nishant Sandhu (5) with two vital wickets. Taking out Srikar Bharat was one way Mukesh Kumar contributed. Notably, in the first innings, Bharat and Padikkal had both reached fifty.
India D was resurrected despite the early losses by Iyer’s forceful blow. He demonstrated his skill and intent with a 37-ball fifty, which placed more pressure on the India B bowlers.
Shreyas Iyer hits 37-ball fifty Duleep Trophy:
In the second inning, Shreyas Iyer stunned the opposition by hitting 50 off 37 deliveries, including seven fours and a six. Iyer moved up to bat at number five, and after a 75-run partnership with Ricky Bhui, his forceful blow enabled India D to push their lead above 150.
Iyer had a terrible first inning, getting out for a duck, before this outstanding performance. In contrast, India B was knocked out for 282 after India D had scored 349.
Iyer’s team lost their opening two Duleep Trophy 2024 games, therefore, they are not in the running for the title, but his individual performance demonstrated his batting ability.
Iyer has scored 104 runs at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 85.25 in his first two games of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season, but his performance has been patchy.
In the first game, his scores were 9 and 54; in the second, they were 0 and 41. Iyer will feel more confident after his most recent half-century, and he will want to continue on this form even after India D was eliminated from the title match.
