Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was involved in a fun session of football with former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Also seen in the field was actor Ranveer Singh, who has a movie lined up in August.
The stylish right-handed batsman Iyer was recently ruled out of the Royal London Cup. He is part of Lancashire county, but will not be turning up owing to the recovery process. Iyer went under the knife after dislocating his shoulder during India vs England series. The post-surgery rehabilitation isn’t yet complete, so he pulled out of the tournament.
In the meantime, it looks like Shreyas Iyer was spotted taking part in a football session with MS Dhoni and Ranveer Singh. He played in the All-Stars practice match that was organized in Mumbai. The matches are played for charity purposes. It isn’t a surprise, however, that Dhoni is competing considering he’s an advocate of the sport.

Shreyas Iyer is likely to be available for the Delhi Capitals in the UAE leg of the 2021 IPL
Since he has all but cleared doubts on his fitness, Shreyas Iyer might make a comeback to competitive cricket in October. He missed the first phase of the discontinuous 2021 IPL, and Rishabh Pant took over the captaincy in his stead. Delhi Capitals performed well under their new captain, however, notching up six wins in eight matches. As a result, they are sitting at the top, almost guaranteed to qualify for the playoffs. Talking about his return, Shreyas had said:
“I’ll be there in the IPL but I don’t know about the captaincy [at Delhi Capitals]. But the team is already doing well and at the top. My main goal is to lift the trophy which Delhi has never done before.”
Considering Pant has handled the pressure well, Iyer might have to slot in purely as a batsman. If not, it will be interesting to see whether Ricky Ponting goes back to Iyer for his experience.
