Shreyas Iyer who injured his left shoulder in the first ODI against England is all set to undergo surgery on April 8 as per reports in Sports Today. The incident took place in the first ODI, in the 8th over of England’s run-chase. He was immediately taken for scans after he walked out of the field and as per reports in ESPNCricinfo. Subsequently, he was also ruled out of the IPL 2021, which was a big blow for his franchise Delhi Capitals.
Shreyas Iyer is expected to undergo surgery in April, which might keep him out of action for the next four to five months. Thus, Iyer is set to miss the entire IPL and is expected to make a comeback in the proposed T20Is against New Zealand and South Africa in September. The BCCI is yet to formally announce how long Iyer might be out of action.
Shreyas Iyer To Miss IPL 2021 Due To Surgery
“Not just the IPL (2021), I think Shreyas will take about 4-5 months for recovery. So a realistic assessment will be the home T20 series against New Zealand and South Africa in September. He will undergo surgery so he will miss the IPL and England tour (August). I am also told by sources that the surgery will take place in end of the first week of April,” a Sports Today report claimed.

Capitals franchise owner Parth Jindal lamented the absence of the team skipper for the entire season. They have enough captaincy options with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane and the newly recruited Steve Smith being a part of the side.
Moreover, the franchise is not keen to give the captaincy responsibilities to Rishabh Pant who is the vice-captain of the side. His lack of leadership experience is one of the reasons why the franchise is not backing him as captain.
“Pant is the first name that pops up in everyone’s mind. He is the hot property at the moment. But a few in the management pointed out that his lack of experience in captaining a team could go against him. Also, there’s thought that the added responsibility could hamper his form,” a source told TOI.
