Shreyas Iyer who was slated to undergo a surgery on April 8, had a successful completion of the same and is slowly recovering from his injury as well. He will be missing IPL 2021 due to his shoulder dislocation and Rishabh Pant will be leading Delhi Capitals in place of him. Iyer had hurt his shoulder during the ODI series against England last month, which ruled him of the season.
After his surgery, he posted a picture on Twitter saying “Surgery was a success and with a lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes”.

Shreyas Iyer suffered the injury during the first ODI against England in Pune on March 23 when he dived to stop a shot by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur. The injury ruled him out of not only the IPL season but also the IPL.
A BCCI official stated that he might be out for four to six months and might come back in the home series against South Africa later this year.
“Not just the IPL (2021), I think Shreyas will take about 4-5 months for recovery. So a realistic assessment will be the home T20 series against New Zealand and South Africa in September. He will undergo surgery so he will miss the IPL and England tour (August). I am also told by sources that the surgery will take place in end of the first week of April,” a Sports Today report claimed.
Shreyas Iyer also signed a deal with English County Club Lancashire but is unlikely to play for the English county side in their one-day tournament, starting on July 23.
Under Iyer, Delhi reached the final of IPL for the very first time in the history of their campaign. They lost to Mumbai Indians in the final as the Rohit Sharma-led side won their fifth IPL title and twice back to back in 2019 and 2020. Mumbai Indians play Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season opener later tonight in Chennai.
