Shubman Gill, currently serving as a travelling reserve for the Indian cricket team in the Twenty20 World Cup, is expected to return home after the team’s matches in the United States. Avesh Khan, another reserve player, is also likely to fly back after the game against Canada in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 15. Both players travelled with the team to Florida from New York on a chartered flight on Wednesday.

This flight was arranged for both the Indian and USA teams following their game at Nassau County International Stadium in Long Island. Gill and Avesh’s involvement with the team was planned only for the US leg of the World Cup unless there are unforeseen injuries to any of the regular players. They were included as travelling reserves because it would be difficult for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Because they cannot send replacements quickly from India to the US or the Caribbean in case of sudden injuries. There is a slight chance that Gill and Avesh might be asked to stay longer if a regular player gets injured during practice on June 14 or in the game on June 15. However, this scenario is considered unlikely due to the bad weather in Florida, which could affect the World Cup schedule.

Team to Focus on Spinners; Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed to Stay for Super 8 Matches

Additionally, the team already has another opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and they might not need an extra fast bowler as they plan to rely more on spinners for the Caribbean matches. The initial squad announced by the selection committee on April 30 included reserves Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Gill, and Avesh.

Currently, it appears that Rinku and Khaleel will remain with the team and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, for the first Super 8 game on June 20. The subsequent Super 8 games are scheduled in Antigua on June 22 and St. Lucia on June 24. If the team advances to the semifinals, the match will be held in Georgetown, Guyana, on June 27, with the final set for Bridgetown on June 29.
