Northamptonshire has signed Siddharth Kaul as a foreign seamer for the upcoming three County Championship games. Kaul, 33, has six caps for India, three in each of the white-ball formats, but went unsold at this year’s IPL auction, leaving him open for his first stay in county cricket.
The right-armer replaces Chris Tremain, the Australian, whose four-game stint has ended due to visa constraints, which limit domestic T20 outings for players from full-member countries to one month.
Kaul has taken 284 wickets at an amazing average of 26.45 in 83 first-class matches, demonstrating his consistency as a player on the Indian domestic circuit. With top-inning stats of 6/27, his 13 four-wicket and 16 five-wicket hauls demonstrate his propensity to destroy batting lineups. John Sadler, the head coach of Northamptonshire, is thrilled to have such an experienced player join his bowling squad.

Siddharth Kaul’s main strength is his first-class experience, even if he has only played a few limited-overs matches for India, including three T20Is and three ODIs in 2018. With 286 first-class wickets taken at an incredible average of 26.44, he has an outstanding record. His career total of 16 five-wicket hauls further demonstrates his ability to take wickets in bunches.

For Northamptonshire, who are presently only 12 points outside of the promotion spots, the right-armer gives them a much-needed lift. Kaul’s abilities could be pivotal with three vital games left against bottom-place Gloucestershire, sixth-place Middlesex, and promotion rivals Worcestershire.
Starting at Wantage Road this Friday, he will get his first taste of English county cricket at home in Gloucestershire. With his new club hoping for an instant return to Division One, Kaul will be looking to make a quick impression after wrapping up a successful Ranji Trophy campaign.
