Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for the 2nd Test match against Sri Lanka to be played at Zahur Chaudhary Stadium, Chattogram from 29th March onwards. Star-all-rounder Shakib AL Hasan returns to the Bangladesh squad after a gap of one year.
Bangladesh struggled in all departments during the first test match at Sylhet where the hosts lost the match by a massive 328-run margin. Bangladesh slipped down below Sri Lanka in the 2023-25 World Test championship cycle. They would be looking to return with a strong performance in the 2nd encounter starting from Saturday onwards.
Shakib AL Hasan will return to international cricket after missing the last group game against Australia due to an index finger injury during the 2023 World Cup which was played in India from 5th October to 19th November.
Earlier this year in January, he was diagnosed with a retinal condition, but the Bangladesh medical team were “optimistic about managing the condition effectively with a conservative approach.”
Shakib AL Hasan played his last test match in April 2023. He was included in the 15-member squad for the first test but was not included in playing XI.
Bangladesh looking for a much-improved performance in 2nd Test
Bangladesh struggled with their performance in the 1st test match, especially with their batting. They made 188 runs in the first innings while they struggled making just 182 runs chasing a massive target of 511 runs to win.
They would be hoping for a better performance with Shakib AL Hasan coming back into the squad. Hasan Mahmud has been included in the squad replacing Mushfik Hasan ruled out due to an ankle injury. Bangladesh would be hoping that they contribute big time to give a tough fight in 2nd test against Sri Lanka and gain valuable points in the 2023-25 WTC cycle.
