Nuwan Thusara became the fifth Sri Lankan bowler to take a hat trick in the T20I format. He achieved this remarkable feat during the third T20I match against Bangladesh played at Sylhet International Stadium, Sylhet on 9th March 2024.
Thusara stunned the Bangladeshi batters to dismiss Najmul Hasan Shanto with a superb yorker. He then produced another lovely yorker to dismiss Towhid Hridoy. Nuwan then showed his class with superb swinging delivery hitting Mahmudullah in front of the stumps to pick up a hat trick. This brilliant achievement took place in the 4th over and put the Bangladesh team under immense pressure.
Thusara then got another wicket of Soumya Sarkar with a superb delivery that left Bangladesh in dire trouble. Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain stitched 44 44-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Rishad played a blinder of an inning with huge hits that kept Bangladesh giving hope of winning the match. Thusara picked his 5th wicket getting the wicket of Shoriful Islam.

Sri Lanka won the match by 28 runs as they bowled out Bangladesh for 146 in 19.4 overs. Nuwan Thusara was the pick of bowlers for Sri Lanka with 5 for 20 in 4 overs. Nuwan Thusara was named the player of the match award for his 5 for 20. After being asked to bat first, Kusal Mendis produced a brilliant knock of 86 that helped Sri Lanka post 176 for 7. Sri Lanka won the series by 2-1 with superb performances from both sides.
