SL vs IND: [WATCH]- Riyan Parag Celebrates Enthusiastically After Taking His First International Wicket In The 1st T20I

On Saturday, July 27, Team India’s batting all-rounder Riyan Parag reacted strongly when he got his first international cricketer’s wicket. He accomplished this at the regulating stage of the first T20I clash between Sri Lanka and India in Pallekele.

It was only his fourth time representing India since he had earlier participated in three T20I matches against Zimbabwe which happened a few days ago. Unfortunately, during that tour, no wickets were taken by the Assamese player.

He’s always been one to watch. On Saturday, during the 17th over of the match, which was his first in the game, he kicked things off with a bang by cleaning up Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis. By getting rid of big-hitting Mendis, Riyan Paris proved that his captain made the right choice when he allowed him to bowl in the death overs.

The moment he took the wicket, he was overjoyed and celebrated it with great enthusiasm. For Riyan, this was like a return to his old form, having been dismissed for 7 off 6 balls earlier on. With his impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets with just 5 runs from 1.2 overs, he made up for that.

Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Riyan Parag, and the openers shine for India in their 43-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I

In the match, Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lanka, won the toss and opted to have the opposition bat first. With a 76-run partnership during the powerplay period, Yashasvi Jaiswal (40) and Shubman Gill (34) established a solid base for India.

Through the contribution of Suryakumar Yadav (58), Rishabh Pant (49) and other players in the team, they reached 213 runs with 7 wickets on their side at an end of 20 overs. In the run chase, the hosts were in a respectable spot at 140/1 in the 14th over.

Towards the end of the game, a dramatic slide began when Axar Patel (2/38) combined forces with Riyan Parag (3/5). Consequently, Sri Lanka was skittled for just 170 in 19.2 overs as Team India obtained an easy victory after having been challenged.

After the match in a post presentation, Suryakumar Yadav who is the captain of Indian team reflected on their victory saying:

“They were playing some good brand of cricket from ball 1. They kept the tempo up despite wickets falling. We practised over here in the last couple of days, luckily there was no dew. We thought that the game was slipping away from us but then we remembered from what situation we won the World Cup and told ourselves that the match is not away from us.”

The two teams will face each other in the second T20I of the series at the same venue on Sunday, 28th July.
