In the second One-Day International of the three-match series on Sunday, August 4, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India National Cricket Team player Shreyas Iyer made an incredible straight hit to dismiss Kamindu Mendis of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
Arshdeep Singh bowled Kamindu Mendis a short delivery outside off-stump on the second-to-last ball of the first innings, which he hooked. Shreyas Iyer, who was rushing in from deep midwicket, was in front of the ball when it dropped.
Iyer hit the bullseye with a perfect fielding effort, surprising Sri Lankan batter Kamindu. India captain Rohit Sharma clapped for Iyer’s fielding efforts and looked astonished. Kamindu Mendis scored 40 runs off 44 balls, with four fours.

The incident happened in the last over of Sri Lanka’s innings, right after India had taken the valuable wicket of Kamindu Mendis off the bowling of Shreyas Iyer, with a brilliant delivery. Arshdeep went around the wicket and fired the ball on the stumps as Jeffrey Vandersay came on bat for the last ball.
Though both Lankan batters were rushing for a single, the right-handed batter was able to hit it through the off-side. Following his misfire on the direct hit from long-off at the non-striker’s end, Indian captain Rohit Sharma tried a riskier second run attempt.
But ironically, the ball found its way straight to Virat Kohli, who scooped it up and dashed to free the striker’s bails. Rohit smiled broadly, clearly happy with his heroic fielding effort.
