“Snicko Is Ineffective At Higher Altitudes”– R Ashwin’s Humor On Disputed Umpire Calls In BGT 2024-25 4th Test

Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin humorously commented on the controversial umpire decisions in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Ashwin quipped that the snicko meters likely malfunctioned at higher altitudes, explaining the third umpire’s decision.

In the 71st over of India’s second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted to hit a short delivery from Pat Cummins over fine leg but mishit the ball, which went straight to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Cummins and Carey appealed for a caught-behind dismissal, but the on-field umpire ruled Jaiswal not out. After a review, despite lacking conclusive evidence, the third umpire declared Jaiswal out, causing frustration for the Indian batter.

The snicko meter showed no spike as the ball passed the bat, but a deflection was visible when the ball reached the wicketkeeper. Commenting on the controversy, Ravichandran Ashwin shared his thoughts on his Instagram story:

“Snicko meter doesn’t work on higher altitudes. All said and done, there was a deflection on this one to go with a ball mark.”

Despite mixed reactions to the umpire’s decision, Jaiswal was given out, and India lost the match by 184 runs. Even Sunil Gavaskar expressed dissatisfaction with how the third umpire overturned the decision.

The former Indian all-rounder offered another funny take on the Snicko Meter controversy. He shared a picture of third umpire Sharfuddoula and suggested that the Snicko Meter company should hire him as their brand ambassador.

“Snickometer is trending now. They should capitalise on this frenzy by signing up this man as their brand ambassador. Just for laughs,” the former Indian player joked on X.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s tweet went viral on X, garnering nearly 14,000 likes and 500 replies within two hours.
