South Indian actor Mohanlal was seen present at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for the IPL 2020 final between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. He was also sitting at the royal box during the final. Mumbai Indians won the IPL final to lift the IPL title for the fifth time in the last 8 years. Meanwhile, there are reports that the south Indian actor along with education app BYJU’s interested in bidding for an IPL time.

Just after the final, BCCI said that they will be adding a ninth team in IPL 2021 and that a full auction will take place before the start of the season. The auction might be held between January and February with the season starting in April. The reason behind adding a new franchise as per the BCCI was to balance out the financial losses that happened due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Mohanlal To Buy An IPL Team ?

Meanwhile, a tweet on Mohanlal looking to buy an IPL team became viral on social media.

“So there is more to what meets the eye in Mohanlal’s Dubai visit for the IPL final. Buzz is that Mohanlal, along with BYJU’s, is bidding for an IPL team. Nothing official so far though.” a tweet read.

Bollywood and the IPL have had a long-standing association. Shahrukh Khan owns the Kolkata Knight Riders, Preity Zinta owns the Kings XI Punjab. Now Mohanlal is also looking to invest in the league.

He will become the first person from the South Indian film industry to buy an IPL team. His visit to Dubai is thus also seen from a business perspective now with the news of buying an IPL team have surfaced.

The addition of a ninth team into the IPL also means that the next IPL auction will be a mega-auction with teams looking to buy some key players and filling up their loopholes in the process.

Teams like CSK, KKR, KXIP and Rajasthan Royals are the teams who will look to do the most from this auction.
