Sri Lanka Cricket Team has picked a star-studded 24-member squad for the upcoming tour of England, starting June 23. The tour comprises three T20Is and three ODIs. Kusal Perera, who led the side against Bangladesh will also lead the Islanders in England.
Sri Lanka have picked a giant squad considering the bio-bubble restrictions and keeping in mind the injuries and hard quarantine rules. The team will aim to get back to winning ways against a strong England side, thereby registering their first series win in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
The Islanders, who continue to go through a transition period have picked four uncapped cricketers – Dhananjaya Lakshan, Ishan Jayaratne, Charith Asalanka, and Shiran Fernando. The selectors are keen to have an idea about the depth of the squad ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.
Sri Lanka will begin their tour on June 18 with a practice match against Kent. The Island nation will play another practice game before they face off with England in three T20Is. After that, they will take part in the 50-overs format and look to get back to winning ways after a poor performance against Bangladesh.
They will bank on their senior cricketers Kusal Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Niroshan Dickwella to step up to the occasion and deliver the goods for Sri Lanka against the World Champions in 50-over cricket.
