The Indian Cricket Team began the series with thumping innings and 132 runs win over Australia on the 3rd day of the 1st Test match played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on 11 February 2023. Ravindra Jadeja was found breaching the code of conduct during the 2nd innings of the first Test.

He has been fined 25 percent of his match fee. Jadeja was found to have breached article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and Player Support Personnel which relates to distributing the spirit of the game.

Apart from the 25 match percent fee, he has been given one demerit point with 24 month period for the offence. The incident took place in the 46th over of Australia’s second innings where Jadeja was applying soothing cream to swelling to his index finger without asking the permission of the on-field umpires.

Jadeja admitted the offence and accepted sanction by ICC Match referee Andy Pycroft, there would be no formal hearing of the case.

The match referee said that Ravindra Jadeja applied the cream on his index finger for medical purposes. The cream was not applied for an artificial substance to the ball and it did not change the condition of the ball which would have led to a breach of Clause 41.3 of ICC Playing conditions.
