Virat Kohli, the star batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore, set a new record on Wednesday when he became the first player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 8,000 runs in the eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals.
In the 2024 edition, Kohli has scored one century and five fifties. He is enjoying his second-most prolific season in the league, with over 700 runs following that historic 2016 season, where he scored 973.
He currently holds the Orange Cap, and his hitting form is one of the main reasons RCB survived a disastrous start to qualify for the playoffs.
In the most recent game against the Chennai Super Kings, the player—who has amassed eight hundred and fifty-five fifties throughout his IPL career—broke yet another record when he became the first player to reach 3000 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He was also the first IPL batter to do so in seventeen different editions at a venue.
Virat Kohli played a key part for RCB
In the crucial IPL 2024 elimination match against the Rajasthan Royals at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, legendary Indian batsman Virat Kohli got off to a fantastic start in his innings. The iconic Indian batsman, however, was removed by Yuzvendra Chahal for just 33 off 24 balls, after having a fantastic start.
Once out, Kohli grew emotional thinking about his removal in the RCB dugout and was dissatisfied with his shot decision.
Batting first, RCB amassed 172 for 8. While in-form opener Virat Kohli hit 33 off 24 balls before being dismissed by cunning leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Rajat Patidar top-scored for the RCB with 34 off 22 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin, an experienced off-spinner for India, bowled superbly to end with fantastic figures of 2/19 in four overs.
