Umran Malik has recently started to show fans why Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained him and is repaying the faith invested in him back for the franchise. He is one of the fastest bowlers in the country and yesterday celebreated his first fifer in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sunil Gavaskar was on air celebrating this feat for the youngster and was delighted to see the youngster excel in such a short time. Umran Malik became the first bowler in the 15 year history of the IPL to take the first five wickets of an IPL innings.
Kevin Pietersen revealed how Sunil Gavaskar celebrated Umran Malik’s first ever fifer. He said, “I think what was more exciting than these 5 wickets is the way Sunny (Gavaskar) was celebrating in the commentary box when he picked up his 5-wicket haul. Punching the ceiling, jumping and screaming. I think Sunny did that because how often have we seen India producing the fastest bowler in world cricket? You can see by the speeds he is delivering and the accuracy that you must be loving.”
“Idea was to attack the stumps and it’s worked well for me” – Umran Malik
Umran Malik ratted the timber time and time again. He welcomed Hardik Pandya with a bouncer, hitting his shoulders and got him out cheaply after that. All five of his wickets were richly deserved and was the only stand-out bowler for his side.
The young fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir was adjudged the player of the match for his brilliant spell and his total tally for the IPL now stand at 15. He is currently second in the list of highest wicket-takers. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Umran Malik said:
“I always bowl fast but I’ve been trying to bowl better lines and lengths. Plan was to rotate between between my plans. Idea was to attack the stumps and it’s worked well for me. 155 (kph), hopefully it happens, but the main goal is to bowl well and pick wickets for my team.”
