Prithvi Shaw scored 0 and 4 in the two innings in the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide and former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar wants him dropped for the second test in Melbourne. Shaw’s technique was exposed by the Australian bowlers and was heavily criticised by the cricket experts during the post-match shows and even during commentary repeatedly. The former Indian skipper wants Shubman Gill to replace Shaw in the next test and open the batting for India.

Prithvi Shaw’s back and across movement has been seen as the real problem in his technique. That movement as per the cricket experts is not allowing him to get in line with the ball and thus he is leaving a big gap between bat and pad. He had identical dismissals in the IPL as well leading upto the series. In Adelaide, Mitchell Starc dismissed him with an incoming delivery in the first innings. In the second innings, Pat Cummins bowled an identical delivery to Starc and Shaw saw his stumps being disturbed.

India Today Sports Journalist, Vikrant Gupta had tweeted about Gavaskar’s opinion of dropping Prithvi Shaw for the next test.

“SUNIL GAVASKAR ON PRITHVI SHAW: ‘Prithvi has technical problems, should be dropped in the next Test’ – Sunny bhai wants Shubman to open if he opens for his state Punjab (which he does) ” tweeted Vikrant Gupta.

Bring in Shubman Gill For Prithvi Shaw: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar pointed out the similar kind of role that Shubman Gill plays the same kind of role for his stateside and there is no reason why he cannot do it for his national team. Besides that Gill looked in better form than Shaw in the two warm-up games. Shubman Gill, who opened in the second warm-up match against Australia A with Shaw, has registered telling scores of 43 and 65 in the first and second innings respectively.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will return home after the first test with his paternity leave to be with his wife. It will be interesting to see who replaces Kohli at number four if Gill to replaces Shaw eventually at the top of the order in Melbourne.
