Gavaskar is one of the best Indian batsmen to don the jersey. His contribution to Indian cricket is unparalleled. Sunil Gavaskar was a part of the World Cup-winning squad in 1983 which changed the landscape of Indian cricket forever.

The Indian team under the leadership of Kapil Dev defeated defending champions West Indies to lift the trophy at Lord’s. Speaking to jagran.com and revealed that according to him Kapil Dev is the greatest match-winner the country has ever produced.
“In my opinion, Kapil Dev is the biggest match-winner India has ever produced. This is so because he could win games both with his batting and bowling abilities,” said Gavaskar.
Meanwhile, Kapil Dev contributed to all departments and led the team from the front. He represented India in 131 Tests and 225 ODIs scalping 687 wickets in total. Kapil occupies and ninth spot in the list of highest Test wicket-takers and second among Indians after Anil Kumble. The former India skipper also contributed with 9031 runs in a career which spanned over 1.5 decades.
Speaking further, Sunil Gavaskar revealed many senior board members and cricketers wanted to create a rife between him and Kapil Dev. However, it didn’t both of them as they wanted to improve the state of Indian cricket.
“Few members of the board and some players who had retired at the time joined hands with the media and tried to create differences between us. But we were always thinking about the betterment of the sport in the country, and that is why we never let it bother us,” concluded Gavaskar.
