Before the 2019 IPL auction, in a press release, Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced to release 9 players. These players include Sachin Baby, Tanmay Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha, Chris Jordan, Carlos Brathwaite, Alex Hales, Bipul Sharma, Mehedi Hasan and Shikhar Dhawan who now have moved to Delhi Daredevils.
In an important press release, Sunrisers Hyderabad has also announced the players who have been retained for IPL 2019. These include Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Hooda, Ricky Bhui, Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Yusuf Pathan, Billy Stanlake, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Shakib AL Hasan. Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem and Vijay Shankar have been traded. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost in the finals of IPL 2018 edition to Chennai Super Kings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been performing well in the IPL since its inception in 2013. Under the captaincy of David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the title in 2106. They reached the playoff stage in 2017 and finished runners-up in 2018.
In 2018, Kane Willamson captained in 17 matches and won 10 matches, lost only 7. It was an amazing performance by Williamson who was the top scorer in IPL 2018 with 735 runs from 17 matches and helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to qualify for the finals.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been a consistent team since its inception. In the 2018 edition, there was no David Warner in the squad due to ban regarding ball tampering case. It was an all-around performance by Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise who was hampered by the loss of Warner.
Under the captaincy of Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad topped the pool stage and got two chances of reaching the finals. Sunrisers Hyderabad could win their 2nd IPL title in 2019 with top quality players in their squad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad was knocked out of the league stage in the 2013 and 2014 edition.
