Suryakumar Yadav is likely to join Team India’s squad for the World Test Championship final as a stand-by player. This comes in light of KL Rahul’s injury in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The opener has been ruled out of the tournament as well as the World Test Championship final, which will take place from 7 to 11 June at the Oval in London against Australia.
Suryakumar Yadav isn’t officially been added, but according to reports, he has been asked to be ready for London. He made his Test debut earlier this year against Australia in Nagpur. He got an opportunity in the first innings but managed only eight runs. The right-hander had to sit out for the remaining matches, as Shreyas Iyer returned from injury. With KL Rahul’s injury, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be added as a standby.
“While it hasn’t been officially decided as yet, Surya was recently been told to keep his UK visa ready,” a BCCI source said to the Times of India.
Earlier today, KL Rahul announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2023 Indian Premier League and the World Test Championship final. He wrote on Instagram,
“Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority. @indiancricketteam.”
