Suryakumar Yadav scored a vital 48 off 35 balls as Mumbai defeated Madhya Pradesh by five wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 final at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, December 15. His knock, featuring four fours and three sixes, saw him surpass MS Dhoni on a prestigious T20 six-hitting list.

Suryakumar now ranks third among Indian batters with the most T20 sixes, having hit 341 sixes in 280 innings. Dhoni, with 338 sixes in 342 innings, sits fourth and could improve his tally while playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025.

Rohit Sharma, India’s Test and ODI captain, leads the list of Indian batters with the most T20 sixes, hitting 525 in 435 innings at age 37. Virat Kohli follows in second place with 416 sixes in 382 innings at 36. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson secures the fifth spot with 334 sixes in 277 innings.

Suryakumar Yadav featured in five matches for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 132 runs in as many innings with an average of 26.40 and a strike rate of 132.

India’s T20I captain began his SMAT 2024-25 campaign with a fiery 70 off 46 balls against Services, featuring seven fours and four sixes. However, he managed only four against Andhra and scored nine and one in the quarter-final and semi-final against Vidarbha and Baroda, respectively.

Suryakumar bounced back in the final, delivering a vital 48 off 35 balls as Mumbai successfully chased a challenging target of 175 against Madhya Pradesh to clinch the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

MP batted first and posted 174/8, powered by skipper Rajat Patidar’s unbeaten 81 off 40 balls. In response, Mumbai chased down the target in 17.5 overs.
