Suryakumar Yadav To Miss The First Round Of The Duleep Trophy Due To A Hand Injury

Suryakumar Yadav’s red-ball dreams have taken a beating with him ruled out for Duleep Trophy’s first round starting from September 5 2023. A hand injury sustained in last week’s preseason match played by Mumbai during Buchi Babu Tournament 2024 in Coimbatore has been troubling the right-hand batsman.

Currently at National Cricket Academy (NCA), the 33-year old is undergoing all the possible rehabilitation so that he can make a comeback soon. During the match against TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar didn’t bat because day three’s injury occurred when he was fielding. The think tank justified their decision saying it was a precautionary move taking into account Duleep Trophy.

He was one of the players named in India C squad that will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Following this path are Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik also who have missed out on tournament due to poor health.

Ravindra Jadeja was withdrawn by BCCI themselves but no reason was given for this action. In B and C teams, Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav would substitute Siraj and Malik respectively.

“I’m definitely looking forward to some red-ball action”- Suryakumar Yadav

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Suryakumar said, he is eager to showcase his skills again in order to regain a position in the team. The 18-year-old right-hander who played his only Test match against Australia last year stated that he would participate in both the Duleep Trophy and Buchi Babu tournaments.

“I made my debut for India in Tests. After that, I got injured as well. There were a lot of people who got an opportunity and have done well too. They deserve that opportunity right now. Going forward, if I have to play, then I will automatically play.”

“That’s not in my control. What’s in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament, go on to play the Duleep Trophy and then see what happens. But yes, I’m really looking forward. There are ten Test matches lined up and I’m obviously excited for some red-ball fun.”

India’s Test season starts with a two-match series against Bangladesh on September 19.
