T Dilip Picks Top 4 Indian Fielding Performers vs Bangladesh
India vs England fourth test

In a commanding performance during the first Test in Chennai, India showcased its superiority over Bangladesh in almost every department. The match saw three Indian batsmen scoring centuries, while veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a remarkable six-wicket haul, further solidifying India’s dominance. Even in the fielding department, India outclassed Bangladesh, whose lacklustre performance drew criticism from former cricketers like Tamim Iqbal and Ravi Shastri.

After the match, T Dilip, India’s fielding coach, took the opportunity to assess the players’ efforts on the field. He highlighted four standout performers, starting with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made a significant impact with his exceptional catches at gully and short leg. “It is tough for me to really mention it openly, but as of now it is very evident that Yashasvi Jaiswal… made himself really pushing that spot,” Dilip commented in a chat on bcci.tv.

KL Rahul also garnered praise for his reflexes, particularly for his catch at mid-on, which showcased his quick reactions. Dilip acknowledged the physical demands of fielding in Chennai’s sweltering heat, commending Mohammed Siraj’s efforts: “For a fast bowler to put in those dives is really commendable.” He concluded his assessment by noting the consistent intensity that Virat Kohli brings to both practice and match situations.

Ashwin Calls Dilip a ‘Superstar’ Fielding Coach

Interestingly, a Google search for T Dilip returned results identifying him as an “internet personality.” In response, Ashwin jokingly remarked, “So unfair… he is our celebrity fielding coach. Superstar.” Dilip has been instrumental in enhancing India’s fielding standards, particularly in slip catching, since he took over from R Sridhar during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recognized Dilip’s contributions and innovative drills after receiving positive feedback from the players. One of his initiatives, the ‘Best Fielder’ medal, is awarded after each match in a small ceremony within the dressing room, further encouraging a competitive spirit among the players.

As the series progresses, India’s dominant performance in Chennai sets a high standard, leaving Bangladesh with much to contemplate as they prepare for the upcoming matches. With key players stepping up and a dedicated coaching staff, India looks poised for continued success.
