T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli’s Iconic Six Voted Greatest Moment In Tournament’s History

In a thrilling encounter between India and Pakistan during the previous T20 World Cup, Team India pulled off an incredible 160-run chase, culminating in the final ball of the match. Initially struggling at 31/4 against Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack, India managed to turn the game around spectacularly.

One of the standout moments from this match, which has been voted by fans as the greatest moment in the history of the T20 World Cup, was Virat Kohli’s remarkable six off Haris Rauf. In the penultimate over, with India needing 28 runs from 12 balls, Kohli hit two critical sixes off Rauf.

The second of these sixes struck on the final ball of the 19th over, was an extraordinary shot that sent the crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground into a frenzy and shifted the momentum decisively in India’s favour. The International Cricket Council (ICC) later recognized this shot as the ‘Shot of the Century’ in November last year.

After being reduced to 31/4, Kohli, alongside Hardik Pandya, built a crucial 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket, with Pandya contributing a vital 40 runs before being dismissed at 144/5. Kohli continued to anchor the innings, leading India towards the finish line. The match reached a nail-biting climax with India needing 2 runs off the final ball. Ravichandran Ashwin coolly left a delivery for a wide before hitting the winning run.

India to face Pakistan in New York on June 9

The historic six by Kohli and the subsequent victory have etched themselves into the annals of T20 World Cup history, exemplifying the high stakes and intense rivalry of India-Pakistan matches. This iconic moment will be rekindled when India and Pakistan renew their rivalry in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the newly constructed Nassau International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9.

This match will mark their ninth encounter in T20 World Cup history. Out of the previous eight meetings, India has won seven times, with Pakistan securing a solitary victory in 2021. Due to ongoing political tensions, India and Pakistan only meet in multi-nation tournaments like the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Asia Cup, as bilateral series between the two nations have been suspended.

In the upcoming tournament, both teams are placed in Group A, along with hosts USA, Ireland, and Canada, promising more thrilling cricket action for fans worldwide.
